Mastodon is already having a pivotal part in the social media ecosystem only by *existing*. Yes, there are a lot of things that need to improve. Racism is the biggest one of them (this is not a debate by the way, this is observable reality). I hope that shit gets fixed soon because it is the biggest embarrassment for this place. But Mastodon and the #Fediverse in general is the only movement that would not be able to be co-opted by billionaires because, by design, it will never interest them enough to do so. Because: Most of us do. Not. Give. A. Shit. About. Advertising. And. Monetization. And if you do, it is fine! Just saying this is not the best space for that and that makes it less prone to being sucked by The Machine. I do not want this place to be *Famous*. I want this place for me to communicate with my friends, for people with health conditions to feel safe talking about masking and for LGTBQ folks to safely EXIST. If this was also as good for racialized folks, it would be heaven already.
