yikes! 3 miners trapped underground at Red Chris mine near Dease Lake. Not a lot of information right now but apparently they are in a refuge area and safe. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/miners-red-chris-mine-bc-dease-lake-1.7592096 It is a gold and copper mine in NW BC. It is closer (as the crow flies) to Juneau Alaska than Whitehorse, or Prince George.

I generally think there are way too many municipalities and arbitrary divisions in BC. We could be a lot more efficiently governed, and fairly taxed, if these were ironed out. The more than a dozen entities in the Capital Regional District are the prime example. I hope amalgamation of Saanich and Victoria happens.
