“They severed my toe”
“They kicked my face to break my teeth, I tried to protect myself.”
This testimony by freed Palestinian detainee Diaa Al-Ghoul, held for a year and a half in Israeli detention, reveals the brutal conditions he endured. His toe was severed, only the flesh, not the bone, but medics reattached it. He suffered four broken ribs from beatings with iron rods and kicks from boots. “They left us without treatment,” he said.
He witnessed an elderly man’s beard burned off while tied to a metal bed. Fathers and sons were separated, forced to hear each other’s screams.
