Study reveals how COVID-19 infection can cause or worsen diabetes. "Researchers from Weill Cornell Medicine have used a cutting-edge model system to uncover the mechanism by which SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, induces new cases of diabetes, and worsens complications in people who already have it. The team found that viral exposure activates immune cells that in turn destroy beta cells, the pancreatic cells that produce insulin." 🇦🇹Austrian woman is found guilty of fatally infecting her neighbor with COVID-19. "The victim, who was also a cancer patient, died of pneumonia that was caused by the coronavirus, according to Austrian news agency APA. A virological report showed that the virus DNA matched both the deceased and the 54-year-old woman, proving that the defendant “almost 100 percent” transmitted it, an expert told the court." “I feel sorry for you personally -- I think that something like this has probably happened hundreds of times,” the judge said Source: @npub15gr4...ztdn
COVID-19 reduces male fertility by affecting semen quality and hormone levels. "The study reviewed and conducted a meta-analysis of studies examining the impact of COVID-19 on male reproductive health and found that SARS-CoV-2 had a significant negative impact on male fertility, particularly on parameters such as ejaculate volume, viability, and motility of the sperm, and sperm concentration and count. Although the treatment of COVID-19 partially alleviated some of the affected parameters, the findings suggest that these improvements may not be sufficient to restore pre-infection levels, particularly for parameters like sperm concentration and motility." SARS-CoV-2 evolves faster in the brain, shedding light on long COVID. "A new study published in Nature Microbiology has revealed that SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, evolves more rapidly in the brain than in the lungs, possibly explaining some of the neurological symptoms associated with the disease." What would an adequate COVID response look like? By Julia Doubleday "And unfortunately, we have a public that is largely uneducated about and unaware of the problem, thanks to the tireless efforts of our political leaders and corporate media outlets who pushed for a “new normal” of forever COVID reinfections." "The first hurdle is making people aware of the problem." "The problem underlying all the current failures is that, quite simply, our government is not trying to end this pandemic. It is trying to hide this pandemic. And you’re not going to solve a problem you won’t acknowledge." @npub15gr4...ztdn Source:
