An Android update (via GrapheneOS), and now things look slightly different... Grrr.
Every so often, I "check in" with fedi friends - people with whom I've enjoyed chats over the years - from whom I haven't heard in a while, messaging them just to see if they are okay.* I realised last night that there were three or four people that I thought that I had not seen for ages, and sure enough, either active but silent profiles, or else 404ing profiles on now-dead servers, which is a real shame. * I know that some people don't like this kind of message, as they feel pressured to reply when already short on time; I try to keep notes on this, as causing a nuisance is the last thing I intend here.

Cloudfloored. Or Cloudflaw. I can't decide.
We have updated this software. Pray we do not update it further.
This week is Transgender Awareness Week. The fediverse has introduced me to so many wonderful trans people that I would not have otherwise met. It is a pleasure to know you all.
I can, I think, understand why Mozilla wants to centre Firefox around AI. If it wants to appeal to an AI-using userbase, perhaps that make sense. And perhaps that prize is sufficient to risk alienating some of their existing and future userbase, who do not want those features. I wonder what the added complexity or cost would be for Mozilla, to have a version with AI and a version without AI. Would it be worth it for them, I wonder. #Mozilla #Firefox
Google is starting to retreat on its "developer government ID verification" plan, thank goodness. But the devil will be in the detail, and Google's positioning that wanting to install software on your own device makes you a "power user" is concerning. The notion that you need to be an "experienced user" to use @npub1mtrk...trt0, for instance, is nonsense. But still: keeping up the pressure appears to be working. A little.
