No prosperous community wants a giant AI data center near it. The enormous, ugly warehouses, the huge drain on energy and water, the noise and air pollution, and the scant few jobs that are delivered, make data centers the worst possible neighbours. This is why they are increasingly being located either in sparsely populated rural areas or among the urban poor and Indigenous communities.
