Chevy Recalls Over 80,000 Vehicles Over Defective Pedestrian Alert System General Motors is recalling more than 80,000 2025-2026 Chevy Equinox EVs due to a defect in the pedestrian alert sound system that could put pedestrians at risk. According to a Dec. 18, 2025, letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), under certain conditions, pedestrians might not be able to tell whether an approaching vehicle is accelerating or decelerating, increasing the risk of injury. NHTSA noted that the vehicles’ sound volumes can vary and fall short of the relative changes required by federal regulations when moving from stationary to speeds of up to 10 kilometers per hour. Chevy owners affected by the recall can visit dealerships to have the body control module software updated at no cost. NHTSA said notification letters will begin mailing to owners on Feb. 2.
