CONTEXT: On October 15, 2025, a Thurston County Sheriff's deputy came across a serious collision on SR 510. The causing driver was erratic: charging at the deputy, returning to his car and digging through it, and trying to get access to the victim driver. When the deputy placed herself between the victim and the suspect, a taser was deployed but didn’t work. The suspect then assaulted the deputy and tried to take her gun. Nisqually Tribal Police and an off duty corrections officer arrived on scene soon after and assisted, however the suspect continued to fight and attempt to disarm. It wasn’t until another deputy arrived on scene and deployed a successful taser that the suspect surrendered. The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Bryan Fleming. In an arrest report, Washington State Patrol troopers said witnesses saw Fleming's car traveling on Pacific Ave at a high rate of speed before colliding with a guardrail and then striking an oncoming car. When questioned by a detective, Fleming said he drank seven bottles of "Nyquil" that day to help him fall asleep. Thurston County prosecutors charged Fleming with assault, attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence, reckless driving, obstructing a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
