23 September 1944 | Probably on this day, due to the decommissioning of Bunker No. II, the SS carried out a selection among the prisoners of the Sonderkommando. More than 200 of them were taken from Birkenau and—under the pretext of being transferred to one of the subcamps—were taken to the area of the so-called Kanada I warehouses. There, they were deceitfully led into a disinfection chamber and murdered with Zyklon B. The bodies of the victims were transported to crematorium III and burned. image

Claude Vecksler, a Jewish boy from Paris. He was murdered in a gas chamber at Auschwitz II-Birkenau on 25 September 1942. He was 11 months old. He arrived at Auschwitz in a transport of 1,000 Jews deported from Drancy in German-occupied France. 25 September 1911 | A German Jewish woman, Hilde Stern, was born in Nuremberg. During the war she lived in Nagysalló in Hungary. In June 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz. She did not survive. image
25 September 1942 | A German Sinti girl, Theresie Hellberg, was born in Rostock. In #Zigeunerlager (Gypsy camp) in #Auschwitz II-Birkenau from 15 March 1943. 22 September 1942 | Two Polish prisoners escaped from the SS recreation center Soletal (Sola-Hütte) in Międzybrodzie (about 30 km south of the camp): Alfons Kiprowski (b. 9 Oct 1921, camp no. 801, registered 20 June 1940) and Piotr Jaglic (Jaglicz) (b. 29 June 1922, camp no. 3616, registered 30 August 1940 – pictured), who had been carrying out finishing work and landscaping there. image
