This is the kind of thing that could happen to Bluesky as well. A decentralized network can become over-reliant on the services provided by the core protocol provider. Looks like the backups works and they’re going to restore everything, but it is a warning sign for all of these protocols. RE:

Nostr adopts MLS end to end encryption standard for groups. This is a huge step forward for private groups on permissionless social media protocols. These age verification laws are in effect a lock-in that means we only can use Meta products, or from companies that will follow their economic model, and the idea of an open source open protocol solution is impossible. It’s all about combining state and corporate power. RE:
