Sorry but if your "we're here to make it easy to build small web things" is just another JS mess I can't take you seriously. If it's about allowing more people to build something on the Web it needs to start with HTML and CSS. Not weird App routing and NPM dependencies. (Yes I am old.)
A few thoughts on why I don't use writing or coding assistants. "[AI Assistants] create distance between me and my thinking and my writing, they alienate the visible output of my work from my work. They alienate me from my writing."
Mozilla's blog post about new leadership perfectly illustrates a core issue (): The new members/roles of the board are all introduced with the big tech companies they come from (Twitter, Google, Walmart, Uber etc.) And sure that comes with a lot of experience running a company and organization, I am not saying that those people don't have skills. But given their resume they also have immense paychecks. And there is very little information about why they should steer one of the most influential organizations in the free software space. That's the issue. Further corporate logic instead of thinking fresh about what role an organization such as Mozilla could and should play.
The belief that digital technologies and the Internet are leaning towards democratic values is as naive and as much semi-religious as economists' belief in the free market. TBH both beliefs share a lot more properties.
Exactly. And one has to realize that given current buildout plans even if this would lead to all data centers using only renewables that other actually important infrastructures would probably have to run of fossil fuel (because there currently isn't enough renewable capacity). Your "green AI" exists on the back of your hospital being run on fossil fuels.
You don't compromise on people's fucking humanity. (Original title: If Not Now, Then Never)
BBC tested AI assistants for summarization and concluded: "91% of AI responses had at least some issues. 51% had “significant” issues." (Original title: AI chatbots are still hopelessly terrible at summarizing news)
AI: The New Aesthetics of Fascism "In other words, the AI industry now finds that it needs all the allies it can get. And it can’t afford to be picky. If the only places that people are seeing AI imagery is (at)BasedEphebophile1488’s verified X account – well, at least it’s being used at all."
