for those (including Apple) concerned about the impact of side loading apps on privacy and security–there is a web established solution, Web Apps. Now thanks to Apple's approach to browser engines on iOS (slowly being changed thanks to a number of regulators around the world but *really* thanks to @Open Web Advocacy) web apps are a worse experience in some ways on mobile (fewer APIs like NFC and BT) and a dire install experience. The @World Wide Web Consortium recently published a set of ethical principles to help shape the ongoing development of the Web. My humble suggestion is all companies that benefit from the web adopt them too and these form the social contract of the Web. Hey an idealist can idealise.
