A magnitude 8.7 earthquake just struck Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia today July 29th 2025 at 23:24 UTC. This is the strongest earthquake since the M9.1 Great Tohoku Earthquake of March 11th 2011. Tsunami warnings and advisories have been issued for much of the Pacific Ocean as it was fairly shallow at just ~18 km in depth.
