“Tin-zinc amalgam is used for rubbing the cushions of electric machines in order to strengthen their action. The most used Kinmeyer amalgam consists of 2 parts mercury, 1 part zinc and 1 part tin.
These counterweights are etheric capacitors with mercury amalgam, only on a small scale. When a gas discharge lamp was brought close to it, it would start to give off light. If anyone has such an antique counterbalance, try looking inside. Inhaling the vapors, on the other hand, is highly discouraged."
