LIVE: Scrutiny on Israel grows as Sumud Flotilla sails closer to Gaza Italian trade union CGIL threatens general strike over possible Israeli attack on flotilla The leader of Italy’s largest trade union, the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), has said they’re prepared to begin a general strike in the event that the flotilla is attacked by Israel, Il Messaggero, the Rome-based Italian newspaper, reports. “In the face of a potential blockade, seizures, arrests – and I hope to stop there – we are ready to proclaim, in a timely manner, a general strike involving all workers, female and male, from all public and private sectors,” said Maurizio Landini, leader of the CGIL. “An act of that nature in international waters would be an act of war against those who wish to carry out a mission to reaffirm peace,” Landini added.
