My experiences in the West Bank demonstrated how determined Palestinian families are that their children are well-educated. Children often have to be escorted to protect them from stone-throwing settlers; their schools are frequently invaded by the IDF and their teachers harassed and sometimes arrested. There have been numerous demolitions in areas where settlements are expanding. We have all seen what the IDF has done in Gaza to schools, colleges and universities. Not collateral damage; education is a threat. And yet the children, the students and their teachers continue their struggle against all the odds, achieving remarkable standards. I recall a twelve year-old boy reading me his poem; it was in English.

Hello #yunohost and #matrix users. Maybe you know that Synapse for Matrix is not light-weight and its proposed successor Dendrite is not ready yet. A nice light-weight alternative is Conduit. Conduit has still no support for #LDAP even though it was requested a few years ago. TIL there are several Conduit forks : https://slrpnk.net/post/31897087 At least one of them, Tuwunel, does have LDAP support since April.

Pro-Palestine activists said on Tuesday that the two insurers no longer provide policies to Elbit Systems following months of direct action and protests. The campaign was initially organised by the group Palestine Action in October 2024, before it was proscribed as a terrorist group in July. Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action, told Novara Media that “this victory is testament to the power of direct action, and also exemplifies why Palestine Action was proscribed”, adding that “it was banned because it was effective at disrupting the Israeli weapons industry”. Campaign groups Defend Our Juries and Prisoners for Palestine, which oppose the proscription of Palestine Action and the imprisonment of its activists, said in a social media post that the development demonstrates that “direct action gets results”. 1/4

Onlangs stelde demissionair minister Karremans van Economische Zaken dat de Rijksoverheid wel op Facebook en Instagram actief moet zijn omdat daar miljoenen Nederlanders zitten en er geen geschikte alternatieve platforms beschikbaar zijn. Volgens Hannah Aubry van Mastodon communiceren overheidsinstanties vaak via het "censuurfilter" van bedrijven die niet de belangen van mensen of de samenleving dienen. "Ze laten hun boodschap bepalen door de grillen van wereldvreemde en overbetaalde mensen die vinden dat ze ongecontroleerde macht zouden moeten hebben. Dit kunnen we niet toestaan", aldus Aubry.
