Good morning. 🌼🌼🌼 13 December 2025 I’m having one of those mornings where my brain and body aren’t quite in sync, so everything takes a little longer. Just a few minutes ago, I prepped Charlie’s food bowl and brought it into my office—only to realize what I’d done, turn around, and carry it back out to set it on his eating pad. Little slips like that have been happening all morning. And don’t get me started on the keyboard—it’s been a comedy of typos. We all have off days, especially after a wild night of partying. As for me, I was off the chain: snacking on tortilla chips and queso until 10 PM while watching Death in Paradise. I know, I know—it’s a bit much, and I should probably slow down. If it’s any consolation, Charlie helped with the chips, so I wasn’t snacking alone. When I was a kid in Spring Valley, California, I had a ceramic piggy bank shaped like a bull—something I picked up in Tijuana, Mexico, just down the road. It had a slot on top for slipping in coins and bills, but no opening to retrieve them. That was the point, I suppose: fill it up, then break it open. A good idea in theory. I think I managed to stash over twelve dollars in it, which was still a long way from full. But like most clever children, I figured out how to retrieve money through the slot—no smashing required. I’ve always wondered why I called it a piggy bank when it was shaped like a bull. A true piggy bank should be shaped like a pig, right? Technically, I guess it was more of a bully bank. It was a bit tacky—painted in shades of red and black, like a sculptural version of one of those velvet bull paintings. Still, it had character. And it held my coins, my schemes, and a little piece of childhood ingenuity. “You don’t luck into integrity. Rustic Resonance I was going to crop this photograph to focus on the gold-fronted woodpecker (Melanerpes aurifrons), but I decided I liked the look of the old tree. I took the photo in Roatán, Honduras. image
Blackbird Perch There were a few of these around a while back when my dogs, Ben and Charlie, took me out for a walk—rusty blackbirds (Euphagus carolinus), dark and watchful in the trees. Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story. #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #wildlife #nature #bird #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #rustyblackbird image

Sentinel and the Trio This quartet—a great blue heron and three laughing gulls—was spotted lounging in a tidal pool along the beach at Gulfport, Mississippi, one quiet morning in November.
