Heron on the High Post There’s something quietly compelling about these minimalistic, slightly overexposed images. In this case, it might be the rustic charm of the great blue heron, perched atop a salt-worn, weathered post rising from the ocean. Behind it, the faint echo of something distant—another marker, another memory—adds depth to the stillness. Explore a curated collection of heron and egret images in my photo gallery. Take a look! #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #wildlife #nature #bird #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #heron #GreatBlueHeron image
Good morning, friends. 🌻🌻🌻 4 December 2025 Well, where do I start? I just fed Charlie, and now he’s here angling for a head scratch. He positions himself neatly over my left hand, the one that often dangles from the arm of my chair. And then, just as quickly, he’s gone—probably to the back door to stare out at the birds and keep watch for those bad squirrels. I really need to get moving today. I have things to do—or rather, one thing to do. Most tasks can wait, but some demand a touch of urgency. I could have handled it yesterday, or even tomorrow, but no longer. Today I’ll do the thing and get it out of the way. Hurray. Speaking of yesterday, I completely blew it off. I worked on my blog, of course, but then I ate lunch and reclined for a series of power naps—each one interrupted by Charlie or my wife needing something. By the time I finally felt awake and ready, the sun had already set. Darkness had arrived, and I remembered that Dr. Seuss line: “How Did It Get So Late So Soon?” Even so, Charlie and I trekked down to the end of the driveway to check the mail. There was only one item in the box—a notice from the Sheriff. Not of Nottingham, but of the parish where we live. He’s demanding payment of our property tax for the year. So perhaps there are two things I need to do today. Tasks are beginning to pile on. “You may delay, but time will not.” — Benjamin Franklin “My little dog – a heartbeat at my feet.” — Edith Wharton “I like to pay taxes. With them, I buy civilization.” — Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #nature #morning #flower #task #tax #nap #dog #time image
Last Ember of Autumn A forest scene unfolds with slender branches of a crepe myrtle in the foreground, sparsely adorned with vivid red autumn leaves. Behind them, the forest recedes into a soft blur—an out-of-focus tapestry of muted trunks and fading foliage. image

The Watcher and the Wanderer I captured this image of two laughing gulls at low tide, bathed in the dim morning light along the beach in Gulfport, Mississippi. image
Step of the Silent Dove I captured this image during the summer—a Eurasian collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto), spotted strolling casually along a thick oak branch. The lighting was so subdued that the scene was nearly colorless to begin with, so I leaned into it: black and white it is. If you're a fan of stunning dove imagery, be sure to explore my photo gallery for a collection of beautiful snapshots that capture their elegance and charm. #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #wildlife #nature #bird #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #EurasianCollaredDove #dove #blackandwhite image
Good morning. 🍄‍🟫🍄‍🟫🍄‍🟫 3 December 2025 Today is a walk day, but the thermometer reads 32°F. Maybe later, once it warms up. I’ll play it by ear, though I know the longer the day stretches, the less likely I am to step outside. Discipline—that’s what I need. CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) recently reminded me that several of my certifications are expiring soon. If I don’t act quickly, they’ll lapse—though a couple remain evergreen. My ISC2 (International Information System Security Certification Consortium) CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) already ended earlier this year. C’est la vie. Those seals of knowledge won’t be part of my toolkit anymore. If I ever needed to work again—which I don’t plan on—I could surely find something suited to my skill set. Dog sitter, perhaps; I already have a dog to sit with. Walmart greeter, however, is out. Patience is not my strong suit. Funny thing: whenever I walk into a store with greeters at the door, I feel the old conditioning rise up, tempted to present my military ID as if reporting for duty. And what exactly is their job description? I suspect theft prevention lurks in there somewhere, which explains the cursory glance at receipts as customers exit. Sometimes I imagine a dystopian future where greeters stand in ballistic armor, armed with automatic weapons, while a robotic voice intones: “Welcome to Walmart.” 😂 “Discipline is choosing between what you want now, and what you want most.” — Abraham Lincoln “Habit is stronger than reason.” — George Santayana “It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.” — George Orwell, 1984 #photo #photography #photographer #photographylovers #nature #mushrooms #certifications #work #distopian #weather image
Spectrum of Serenity This is a photograph of tree branches etched against a deep blue sky. A small bird perches on one of the limbs—perhaps a goldfinch, though I’m not entirely sure. The colors feel heightened, maybe even magnified: the sky glows a rich, saturated blue; the branches shimmer in silver, gold, black, and hints of blue. The bird itself carries blue and gold in its plumage, echoing the palette. It’s all intentional—I’m in a creative mood this morning, and the image reflects that impulse toward exaggeration, toward beauty made bold. image
Phoebe on the Pale Rail When we came in from our walk yesterday, this eastern phoebe (Sayornis phoebe) was sitting on the backside of the fence in the backyard. This was the closest I've been to one of these and the only time I've seen one in the backyard.
