While i would have liked to join this statement and agree with much of its content, i could not do so for two reasons: 1) the statement does not acknowledge that Afghan women and girls are being discriminated against based on their sex. In fact, as i have argued elsewhere it amounts to killing females psychologically or physically to destroy them In whole or in part (femigenocide) Moreover, considering that gender is the social meaning given to sex, and that these extreme unparalleled policies exclusionary are being imposed by the Taliban but do not enjoy the support of the majority of Afghan society itself, this is more so a case of sex based rather than gender based discrimination. Not to mention that Afghan females cannot “identify” out of their oppression at the moment even if they tried; 2) i have since the beginning not been a supporter of the calls to codify “gender apartheid” Putting this aside, it is abhorrent this was allowed to happen for four years straight and that the world has normalized it.
