It (somewhat) works!!! #aardvark #p2panda

Update from the Aardvark hackfest with @p2panda yesterday and today! So far we managed to get a GTK Rust test project going with a simple TextView, and we're converting text changes into Automerge CRDT operations. We also have the p2panda local-first sync backend running in a separate thread. Currently we're working on connecting both worlds to sync data across devices. Hopefully we'll have an actual demo of synced editing by the end of the day (no pressure).

Doing some software archaeology with @npub1u9fy...yhqn today, looking at webOS on the Touchpad and Palm Pre. It's very cool to see how far ahead of its time this was, and also how many elements from it survived in GNOME in some form! And of course, the multitasking is still unmatched by any more recent mobile platform :) #webOS #palmPre #gnome

We have a schedule for the @p2panda event next week 🥳 On Saturday December 7th and Sunday 8th we have a hackfest at Weise7 to start working on a new native GTK local-first collaborative text editor! As someone who worked with VR a bit for university ca. 2017 it's been interesting to see the Apple media ecosystem go through a full cycle of VR productivity discourse in less than a year. Last year: "Meh, seems like a gamer thing" This spring: "Woah, what if I could use this instead of a laptop" Once people bought it: "Actually, turns out the resolution and input precision are still waaaay off" After it was in a drawer for 3 months: "This is useless for anything except actual 3D content"
