Despite more and more stringent codes, new build apartments keep getting worse and worse indoor air, due to "recirculation systems", open kitchens (extremely dumb trend that architects and builders love to promote because it makes thing easier and cheaper for them), insulation, etc. Study from Norway (which has one of the top five strictest technical regulations in the world, so unless you live in Estonia, Finland or Denmark you are unlikely to be even near Norwegian standards) finds most new-builds fail miserably to prevent bad indoor air.
