On the struggles to keep monkeys away from villages and towns in Japan. In the old days (up to first few decades of the 20th century) villagers were issued rifles to keep the bear, the wolf and the boar, away, but these days few carry a gun around town. So the monkeys come in to feast on garbage and gardens. Dogs are by far the best deterrent.

Study on how Share houses ("Sharehouses" in local English) are becoming more common in Tokyo. When I was young these were mostly for students or people staying short term or those with uncertain employments, but increasingly they are becoming more popular as a legit lifestyle, typically with younger and middle aged people who do not intend to form their own families. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/cdbc4aa56e42635d42c3d829eb64a721869bdfd6f4abeaf9a9f50d3c3b29da6a.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/c790d44b334762e8d1f946774df2cbb400041f062b46d88cde2e6a39d6928149.file

"Before and after being exposed to the natural and urban environments, the researchers measured a whole range of biomarkers in the participants’ blood, saliva as well as their cognitive capacity. In the woods, people exhibited significantly lower blood pressure, a better immune response and an improved psychological state—in the urban environment, however, they presented with higher blood pressure and strong physiological and psychological stress reactions." https://hell.twtr.plus/media/afeaf83c357c0c60548e958c652521165f676fb29ec0d953f4fd290d593b9572.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/b37896d300923192fd89c190dbc4581a92e8f1988458bc08bb715b835ba38fb2.file

Random thought. Many years ago in a conversation at work a young colleague mentioned "all my baby photos are digital." Meaning, none of his will remain. Nothing of his childhood or memory will be passed down to coming generations. His children or grandchildren will never open an old shoebox of memories to piece together a story of his life. It will all die on some old hard-drive in an attic. Much like this civilization of ours if we keep taking it for granted.
RT @zarathustra5150@twitter.com: As social trust has withered, in large part due to exploding immigration and diversity, its impact has rippled through society in widening rings, spawning second and third-order effects we are only just beginning to understand.
