“The very nature of dying regimes is to allow a confused mixture of beliefs and doctrines, and at the same time to give the illusion that the moment of choice can be postponed indefinitely...” — Emil Cioran, May 1972 https://hell.twtr.plus/media/00a31ce3e2176f61921e27ebb041fff6c051370f9e91e80e293420de1e19531d.file
“One day, which cannot be too far off, Europe will capitulate without the slightest resistance to the first invader, like Rome before the Goths and the Vandals. And we will see a Queen of England on the arm of who knows what Mongol.” — Emil Cioran, May 1972 https://hell.twtr.plus/media/1d4925c026953a8c402d0764e58e4962c0d1818966ac19c5e46aeebc6719d1af.file
"Don't be obtuse Wrath, we paint them in merry colors these days! Looks like giant christmas presents. Get it? Huh? Get it?" https://hell.twtr.plus/media/bf659ab6d08761e3934a493633b225119250307e91d7805da47026781c2ca84e.file
Looking forward to the traditional European Christmas Decorations coming up again as City councils all over Europe race to prep themselves for the merriment. The first properly multistory building in Brazil is the 1821 rammed earth Sobradão, in Minas Novas, renovated in 2021. After two hundred years of neglect it was found that some wooden structures (floor, roof etc.) needed renewal, as well as door and window details. Rammed earth is one of the few building materials we have with potentially unlimited life spans. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/7a54c6d557b62442fde1eb06ae12344f0c49c42936426fd81a952e2f5888a344.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/43b41c6df31bfeceadf0d40afe2fc196ba8ca3ade15562246a61ebb6a1b0cd01.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/2373d4373826898598d3012e8e0af4925000803e7295fd44fe4e92d18152cd8a.file
In Germany in the middle ages each town or village was tasked with caring for its own poor or needy. The town of Gönningen, in Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg, built or renovated this first almshouse in the 18th c. (possible over a 16th c. building). With industrialization came a wave of new poor and a second home had to be built (second photo) but this was offered for a rent so the tenants were too poor to have their own homes but still some sort of income. Both today are private homes. Timber frame with wattle and daub infill or brick (adobe or fired brick), more recent fired tile roof. Gönningen was relatively well-off due to its skilled seed and dried fruit trade and the town has several well preserved communal or charitable buildings. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/46e490062d49e3f7f989e260cd0e4f6ddabc612d28f00b451a9896d6a1d7aab0.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/47b99006f402752e1894c6b100acab5a3b23ef63b01fe851fe324ff28b013785.file
A radical opinion.
If you always wanted a masculine Gibbs Surround on your front door or windows but didn't have the courage to hew the actual stone? Just lay it in brick roughly and finish out the detailing in plaster. Or leave as is. Not complicated work but it will cut into your TV time. Lovely photos from Instagram accounts katiemc.heritage and architecture_at_deerfield. https://hell.twtr.plus/media/fdca884fe89f5b550a097801ad11e7527ca74373e0b9918b3655c6385688ad5b.file https://hell.twtr.plus/media/a0968d41cb29f5695131c48dac1d38f664d2c80e149063c3623a90b7a492411c.file
