Thugs threatening Hamza al-Masri is entirely alarming & must be called out Hamza has been providing crucial coverage of demonstrations in Gaza & voices critical of Hamas The protests in Gaza started spontaneously & carry genuine grievances (e.g. Hamas step down from gov & ending the war), even if Israel or other actors are trying to exploit them or push them in other directions, it doesn't delegitimize the grievances of protesters or call into question the genuineness of their pain Palestinian society is NOT a monolith; just as there are some supporters of Hamas, there are critics of it Hamas is both a government, an armed group & a political party; people are criticizing either of those doesn't mean criticizing all the others & most certainly doesn't mean criticizing the Palestinian resistance The Bolsheviks once made their survival synonymous to the survival of the revolution, & that blinded them from acknowledging bad decisions or transgressions their members/leaders made or tolerating criticism from their people; b/c if you criticized the Bolsheviks, it meant you were criticizing the revolution itself. Hamas leaders are fallible humans who made several bad decisions or insensitive statements recently from the perspective of the people they represent (e.g. a Hamas leader saying "our losses are only tactical, Israel's losses are strategic", another saying from the comfort of Algeria "We have no white flags to raise, we only have white shrouds to put our children in & keep going"...) Gazans have the right to call out those decisions/statements/leaders & they are. Those leaders need to listen to those voices to stay attuned to what average Gazans say & want. People in Gaza who endured 16 months of genocide on their own have a full right to express themselves against Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, Israel, the entire world... & none of the folks outside have a right to lecture them from the comfort of their homes Finally, Gazans protesting Hamas ≠ absolving Israel of the blame. Ask any average protester who their main oppressor is, they'll say without a second thought Israel's apartheid!
A hilarious reminder to NEVER take Israeli ex-hostage testimonies at face value An average Hamas member in a tunnel in Gaza with no internet/electricity (or English language skills) NEVER heard of Columbia university, let alone have the means to communicate with folks there Hamas captors never use technology, never communicate with the leadership abroad, to avoid Israeli/US/UK surveillance. If Hamas made a single contact with a single US citizen/resident, the US intelligence community would've immediately flagged it a year ago & it would've been all over the media to delegitimize the entire campus movement. image
Killing journalists is not only about creating a blackout & undermining coverage, it’s also (& more importantly) about deliberate destruction of evidence. That’s why Israel has been killing journalists at the highest rate ever recorded globally in any conflict in human history Journalists, like first responders, are the always the first to a crime scene They’re gatekeepers to massive amounts of information (e.g. testimonies, names, locations, contact info, pictures, videos, personal accounts…)
Israel repeatedly & explicitly stated its intention to murder Husam Shabat months & months ago… the world abandoned him & the rest of Gaza’s bravest journalists with the certain knowledge they will be killed May Husam’s blood haunt the “civilized world” that betrayed him! image
In previous wars, it was entirely unthinkable for Israel to even consider bombing the Red Cross. They committed all kinds of atrocities, but the Red Cross was a bit too far for them Today Israel casually & directly bombs the Red Cross in Gaza & it doesn’t even make any headlines
Israel just bombed a key Gazan hospital under the pretext of targeting a wounded politician (non-combatant) while he was on a hospital bed receiving life saving care If Russia did this, under the same pretext, the Western world would condemn this nonstop as a “terror attack”!
Even if you suppose the world’s most dangerous most despicable man was in that tent, Israel could’ve taken him out with a small drone bomb To use a giant bunker buster on tents shows how the carnage of civilians is the goal, the alleged “target” is merely the pretext. Genocide!
🚨"Netanyahu erupted in anger [on Oct 9], yelling & banging on the table. 'Why not 5,000?' he scolded the Chief of Staff. 'We don't have 5,000 approved targets,' Halevi replied. 'I'm not interested in targets,' Netanyahu retorted 'TAKE DOWN HOUSES, BOMB WITH EVERYTHING YOU HAVE'" image
Today it's Palestinians, tomorrow is you! That's no longer figurative speech... They're piling on us now b/c we're an easy target. Once it becomes normalized, you'll be next! Palestinians were some of the earliest victims of "cancel culture", decades before it became a thing image
