The Blackwell Philosophy Turns Sites into Statements ![](https://m.stacker.news/104392) The idea was to allow it to “speak” to the local topography, the geological [characteristics], and the flora and fauna, the cave and the forest, refuge and prospect. And then we translated all that through the vernacular, with the giraffe stone buildings, these fieldstones, and then putting our own spin on that. We were also thinking about performance and the role of the outer lining of the building in controlling the sun. We have these brass brise-soleil fins that we beveled on the ends to catch the light and the shadow. As the sun moves, they go from light to dark and dark to light. ![](https://m.stacker.news/104393)
Surya Mattu: Explaining the Unseen ![](https://m.stacker.news/104391) Surya Mattu is one of the first artists I met who made the word “tech” in art feel like an opportunity rather than a liability. His work in art, engineering, and journalism demystifies a wide range of complex systems: from the biases in predictive policing algorithms, to the invasiveness of Facebook ad targeting, to how your devices are tracking you in your home. Mattu is the founder of the Digital Witness Lab at Princeton University and a senior data journalism engineer at Bloomberg News. We’ve collaborated on many projects over the years, and I’ve always admired his ability to find joy—even when things seem bleak. We recently had a conversation about creating work that critiques technology in today’s landscape and how to stay inspired in the process.
Make things happen > What made those projects glamorous and desirable was her and how she approached the work. There’s that old nugget about making your own luck and that is something she excelled at. She had a unique ability to take really hard or nebulous problems (both design and team-related) and morph them into something amazing that got people excited. Instead of getting discouraged, she’d respond to friction with more energy, more enthusiasm. In so many ways, she was a transformative presence on any team and project. > —Cap Watkins
"How I approach motion in product design" conceived by @deSign_r - capturing #ideas in visual form. Brilliant thinking awaits #design & #creativity:
Creative Activism: Using Art & Design to Spark Change ![](https://m.stacker.news/104273) In an era of global challenges — from climate change to social injustice — creativity is more than expression. It’s action. This workshop explored how artists, designers, and bold thinkers are using their work to challenge the status quo, inspire collective action, and amplify unheard voices.
How I approach motion in product design ![](https://m.stacker.news/104272) Motion is critical for how a product feels. It guides attention, reinforces brand personality, and can make an interface feel more responsive. Motion has been a core part of my design process, going way back to the days when Principle was king.
