i cried listening to music today
not because the music made me
but because it was music
and i haven't been
listening
it was a drip, a drop, a pebble
cast into the dark empty
only the echoes telling
how vast and dry
that space is
chasing each other to exhaustion
at the impossible scale
of the effort required
to refill that void

trying to predict futures
build religions from visions

hauntings in the high corners of rooms
bartered from strangers for a time
