C'est fini! The last of the cropping veg. has been removed, chopped up and put in the compost. Rows of mulch have been laid down at regular intervals to control water run-off over the winter. All that remains to do is lay down the pelletized lime before winter sets in.The bottom of the plot has rhubarb, milkweed, Cleome & raspberries which all will remain as-is until spring. Some of that is still flowering with bees visiting. #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b @npub1nw7c...g0ek @a place for allotment folk image
Well, the peppers, eggplant and even the raspberries survived the cold temperatures yesterday. It's nowhere near that cold this morning (52°F/10°C). HOWEVER, I decided to take up everything now anyway as my window for "comfortable" outdoor work is closing fast. Got as far as removing the peppers yesterday and chopping them for the compost. Will do the eggplant today if the rain holds off. The raspberries (still bearing) will be left all winter. #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland @npub1nw7c...g0ek image
Considerable frost this morning. The overnight low was 33°F / 1°C and the fog rising off the river is freezing on things. BeetBear came out to inspect things and then went right back in. I think the peppers have had it, but we'll see what they look like later in the day.🥶 #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #BeetBear @npub1nw7c...g0ek @a place for allotment folk
DUN PICKIN' so says BeetBear's sign. With the frost warning for tonight, we went out and harvested as much of the remaining eggplant and peppers as we could. The tomatoes have now all been removed so these are the last of our crops for the year. Except the carrots. I moved the carrot pot in to the greenhouse, so we should be able to have them for a few more weeks. 😀 #gardening #Allotment #zone6b #NewEngland #BeetBear @npub1nw7c...g0ek @a place for allotment folk

Not really #gardening but gardening adjacent, I suppose. This stone work is about 200 meters from my house and I've known it all my life. It was very old when I was a kid in 1950 and has always fascinated me. The other side (upstream) of the bridge was an old mill building and further up, a small dam. Modern work in foreground is result of poor road maintenance. I envy the skill and hard work involved in the original work. No one left to ask the when and why of it. #NewEngland #StoneWall image
I think it was it Victor Hugo who said "Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise" or was that Orphan Annie? Even as the horrors persist (peeking at the news), life goes on. Been continuing with the garden cleanup & BeetBear is helping by scouting out the last of the usable tomatoes & offering encouragement. We stopped to enjoy a volunteer Cleome flowering between the last of the tomato vines. ttfn everyone. 😀 #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland @npub1nw7c...g0ek @a place for allotment folk #BeetBear
