Considerable frost this morning. The overnight low was 33°F / 1°C and the fog rising off the river is freezing on things. BeetBear came out to inspect things and then went right back in. DUN PICKIN' so says BeetBear's sign. With the frost warning for tonight, we went out and harvested as much of the remaining eggplant and peppers as we could. The tomatoes have now all been removed so these are the last of our crops for the year. Except the carrots. Not really #gardening but gardening adjacent, I suppose. This stone work is about 200 meters from my house and I've known it all my life. It was very old when I was a kid in 1950 and has always fascinated me. The other side (upstream) of the bridge was an old mill building and further up, a small dam. Modern work in foreground is result of poor road maintenance. I envy the skill and hard work involved in the original work. No one left to ask the when and why of it. #NewEngland #StoneWall

I think it was it Victor Hugo who said "Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise" or was that Orphan Annie? Even as the horrors persist (peeking at the news), life goes on. Been continuing with the garden cleanup & BeetBear is helping by scouting out the last of the usable tomatoes & offering encouragement. Last Oct., I was talking about finally being able to get rid of a big boulder that the winter freeze broke up in to pieces small enough to move. Well, this year my trowel struck a hard spot while planting lettuce so at the end of the season I decided to check it out &found grandpa boulder has come up from the depths. I gave up digging when it became apparent that it weighs more than my Honda. Stuck an iron rod next to it as a marker & covered it up again. #gardening #Allotment @npub1nw7c...g0ek
