Another nice day here. Having a nice visit with our daughter, who is here for a few days. Day topped off by the continuation of corn-fest and yet more raspberries & cream. This picking concludes the harvest from the first planting. Looks like second planting will be ready in a day or two... 😀 #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #BeetBear #SweetCorn @npub1v5ap...ny6w image
Today's pickings, shared with my daughter and the rest set out for the neighbors. All that's left right now (3 hours later) is about 2 dozen yellow squash, which nobody seems to know what to do with, in spite of me explaining repeatedly some of the ways I prepare it. Eventually it WILL all be taken, when the squash aficionados are coming home from work... #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b @npub1v5ap...ny6w image
There's a corner of the garden that has not yet been overrun by the butternut squash and the House Sparrows have taken it over for their dust baths. All those little craters have been made by small birds fluttering about in the dust. It's hard to get close when they are doing it, but here's what it looks like. #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #birds @npub1v5ap...ny6w image
We topped off a beautiful day here by resuming our corn-fest. Probably enough left of the first planting to get us one more meal. Second planting should be ready in another 2 days or so. I figure we'll get to about 95 or 6 ears from the first planting, if the skunks stay away! Meal also included roast sausage, peppers and cherry tomatoes and more raspberries n' cream. Too full to move.. #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #BeetBear #SweetCorn @npub1v5ap...ny6w image
It was a tomato-y kind of day. Here are some tomatoes, present and future. Sunburst squash and tomatoes for dinner, of course. More raspberries in whipped cream for dessert. Definitely August around here! Have to give the corn a rest today to make sure we have enough to treat our special guest, the distinguished botanist, who arrives tomorrow. #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b @npub1v5ap...ny6w #tomatoes
A quick view this morning of parts of my very overgrown tomato patch. Lots of fruit, but not much ripe except for the sweet 100's. Video may be slow to load. #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #tomatoes @npub1v5ap...ny6w
It was a blessed relief to be out & about gardening today. Temps stayed in the 70°F (21°C) range all day & it was breezy and cool. Put out some surplus veg, but never got to take a picture because it was all gone before I turned around. Their favorites seems to be eggplant, zucchini, and cukes. The yellow sunburst squash (my favorite) is always the last to go. ANYWAY to no one's surprise we had more corn for dinner! #gardening #Allotment #NewEngland #zone6b #BeetBear #SweetCorn @gardening image
