I saw a YouTube video in which the presenter was talking about the idea of a $100 USD "pen for life" (including ink refills). He chose a Right Choice $50 titanium body retractable rollerball and rollerball refills. He claims refills (Pilot G2 or Pentel Energel) cost about $1 each and last him about a year each.
I use a $35 TWSBI ECO #fountainpen and Mrs. Stewart's Concentrated Liquid Bluing, $4 for 8 oz (237 mL). Pelikan 4001 is available in 1000 mL bottles (blue or black, at least) for $30.
I should probably go through my collection of assorted 1990s #calligraphy #fountainpens and see if there are still cartridges available that fit them, then give them away.
I've never going to use them again. I'm sure there's a kid out there somewhere who would be as fascinated with them as I was when I bought my first calligraphy fountain pen set at age 10.
I've always like #ModelTrains, but the problem, to me, is how big a layout actually needs to be before I find it interesting in the long term.
My dream has always been to realistically model a high speed passenger rail service.
An HO train (1:87 scale) running at a scale speed of 60 mph will travel 5280/87= 60.69 feet of track per minute. To model an N700A #Shinkansen at 180 mph would be triple that, over 182 feet per minute.
The track radius which allows that speed is 3000m, or 9843 feet.
