being a Third World immigrant means that when you talk of even the most cautious and conservative IPCC-validated ecological predictions, e.g. that we'll all be rationing electricity and water in the next few decades or that heatwaves will make it dangerous to go outside at certain times etc., First World people call you a lunatic nihilist dooming over unthinkable apocalypse fantasy scenarios, out of the sheer force of denial that even the slightest drop in European levels of material comfort is survivable, or even conceivable.

so it turns out one of my kids didn't know just how much spiritual power the Pope has and that it means literally Daddy and there's only one for the entire planet. so I told them how it works and papal infability and also the original meaning of the word "canon". and they said, "every time you tell me more facts about the Catholic Church I think you're pulling my leg and then it's all real"
I wonder if the composers of the first, chiptune videogame OSTs were even aware of what they were doing to people's brains. there's no music in the world that does to me what videogame music does. it's only comparable to like, my grandma's lullabies in how entrenched they're burned in my synapses. for the record the thing where I lost my appetite for cocktails after I started lifting is still holding. please don't get me wrong, I'm no moralist, I will happily do all drugs I can get my hands on, for fun, whenever I want. I just have somehow ceased to want alcohol these days. it wasn't a conscious decision or an attempt to be healthier or anything, I just found myself in situations where I normally would enjoy a martini alone in some hole and failed to find in the body the desire for it.
