Catherine Connolly, a self-described socialist, pacifist, a supporter of Palestine and of a united Ireland, has been elected president of Ireland.
It is heartwarming to see a country breaking from the current trend of populist right wing and chosing a woman who is not afraid of standing up to those extremists.
