Loops For You algorithm and @npub102mw...2qff will inspire other ActivityPub projects in 2026.
Mark my words.
We're going to make the fediverse more friendly and easier to explore with better algorithmic discovery.

How Loops Finds Your Next Favourite Account β¨
Loops has a new algorithm* for Account Suggestions!
It's smarter than others, it leverages the unique data we collect.
The more you use Loops, the more accurate the results (and FYP) are.
It's not magic, it's just math and relationships.
The real magic is our community βΊοΈ

You wanted more control over the Loops app.
I spent this evening implementing that, and at first I just cached the settings to the device.
But when you logged in again, they would be forgotten.
So I fixed that and they are now stored server side, and persisted across devices and sessions.
It was tricky to handle, some servers may not support this yet, so we gracefully fallback to defaults.
But most importantly, we listen.
Do I regret turning down VC money? Not for a second.
VC funding is fast growth paid for by betraying your day-one users and abandoning your principles. That's always the trade.
I'll choose failure over selling out every time.
This community actually matters to me, and I mean that.
If I didn't care about you or the fediverse, I would have sold out long ago.
You deserve better. β€οΈ
#Loops #Pixelfed #Fediverse
Hot takes I've seen recently:
- "Pixelfed is just a Mastodon reskin"
- "Loops is just short PeerTube"
- "Why does dansup have a strong fan base?"
My take:
- We are building the future of the social web.
Instead of fighting over or against implementation details or developers, we should be uniting against corporate silos.
Build. Ship. Federate. β€οΈ
2025 brought 400k+ new users to Pixelfed, Loops and the fediverse!
That kind of growth is rare, especially for a small team like ours.
Looking forward to 2026, I'm focused on making our projects more stable so we can handle a few million more π
We're building the future of ethical social media, together. β€οΈ
Friendly reminder, a reverse chronological feed like Mastodon and Pixelfed use are technically algorithms.
While I understand that many people come to the fediverse because they have had bad experiences with algorithms, it's important to remember that not all algorithms are the same!
You can have ethical algorithms that respect peoples permissions while also using data you collect responsibly.
Loops is proof of this π
Pixelfed has too many half-baked features like Groups, Live Streaming and Parental Controls.
Abstracting them into Laravel Packages will make their development easier, while no longer constraining core development.
My goal for Pixelfed in 2026 is to focus on our core features, improve media format support, make installation easier, and resolve some annoying long standing federation issues.
