Just 250 staff remain at Voice of America, after layoffs announced today by Kari Lake, special advisor to the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM). Lake says 1,400 positions have been eliminated across USAGM, an 85% decrease. When President Trump signed an order in March to shrink USAGM, advocates for the agency, including Republican lawmakers, said its networks were vital for fighting disinformation. The three VOA journalists who sued to stop the terminations were all laid off, but say their legal fight will continue.
