Given that Trump is probably going to leave the 10% baseline tariff in place (the only one the UK is subject to) and Britain doesn’t export much to the US anyway, it’s real tryhard stuff to try to get a deal early anyway.
More Peter Mandelson strategic genius.
RE:
Not my country not my expertise etc but looks to me the Canadian election gives Trudeau's place in history a little bit of a leg-up. Handled Trump well: tried charm, when that didn't work prepared tariff retaliation v quickly, rallied nation with great speech & stepped down at the right time. Fair?
It’s very authentic and historical-sounding to refer to parliamentary constituencies as “ridings” and I commend Canada for doing it.
This constitutes my only views on the Canadian election results so far.
My Trade Secrets today. Electoral gains from telling Trump to stuff his tariffs (my phrase tbf) are clear in Oz and Canada.
Also everyone who can (including YOU, Britain) should slow-walk trade talks with the US until financial markets, collapsing popularity and empty shelves force Trump to fold.

Just noticed that in fact you could replace "the EU" with "Nick Clegg's career" and "World peace" with "Facebook" and this piece would work much better.
