Apple just opened a massive new store in downtown Shanghai. It is honestly enormous. image
And the war mongering continues over the East China Sea. The American military continues to press the need to maintain dominance across the entire "first island chain" even though #China is all but contained already, from South Korea, Japan down to the Philippines and Australia. The issue of Taiwan has zero to do with "protecting democracy". It has everything to do with kneecapping China's ability to access the Pacific. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-03-20/china-on-track-to-be-ready-for-taiwan-invasion-by-2027-us-says?sref=lgMFFI0d
Once again Tim Cook is back in #China and this time for both meetings and to open a new flagship store here in Shanghai. Always wondered if WeChat or Alipay face the same 30% “fees” which all apps need to pay. You know, the same fees demanded of Damus six months ago. https://www.reuters.com/technology/apple-boss-tim-cook-visiting-shanghai-2024-03-20/
Fun fact. One of Alexander Hamilton’s key pieces of policy was centered on building America into a manufacturing powerhouse. Key to his policy was the explicit statement that the American government would pay bounties to anyone bringing “improvements and secrets of extraordinary value to the United States”.
Not sure if this is just me, but it seems like the SEC's website has been down all morning. Strange, then again maybe it is just me. image
Here is a question I receive quite often, and the answer is pretty straightforward. The Chinese would prefer Trump over Biden and the reasoning is simple. To the Chinese, Trump operates commercially and while the sorts of conditions to trade aren’t always welcomed by the Chinese leadership, they also know that the rationale behind trade conditions is commercial. That they can live with. This was clearly the case when the original tariffs were put on China under the Trump administration. Under the Biden administration not only did the tariffs remain in place, but the policy was extended most notably centered on chips and technology more broadly. These new measures, as viewed by the Chinese government, were taken for geopolitical purposes. There were no negotiations as was the case with the Trump team. The decision was unilateral and, in the eyes of the Chinese, meant or the sole purpose of containment. We can all debate on what approach is best and even whether or not China should be contained. But when you return to the question at hand, it is clear that the Chinese are more in favor of a return to Trump than another four years of Biden.
Namaste to you all. #yoga image
