Library in the Earth, designed by Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP, is nestled within KURKKU FIELDS in Kisarazu, Japan, and serves as a retreat for farmers.
Completed in 2022, the library seamlessly blends into its natural surroundings, built beneath flourishing soil and plants. Its unique design features cantilevered concrete slabs, earthen finishes, and an open corridor of bookshelves without beams or columns.
The structure’s thin vertical beams support each other, symbolizing the agricultural community, while framing views of the sky and clouds.
