Many of my federal scientist friends are unwilling to speak to journalists, even on background, because they fear the consequences of speaking out. We've got a nice constitution here. It would be amazing if someone actually followed it.

Because no one spends as much on science as the US does, destroying NIH, NSF, NOAA, NASA, EPA, USDA, USGS, etc. is leading to a brain drain, but it's not to other countries but rather from science. This senseless destruction of US science will hurt the US and the world for a very long time.

I had a literal nightmare that during a town hall, the VP of research at my university threatened to sue me because NOAA had taken back one of my grants, but I had already spent some of the funds. He was going to make me pay for it personally. Check on your climate scientist friends. We're not okay.
