Because no one spends as much on science as the US does, destroying NIH, NSF, NOAA, NASA, EPA, USDA, USGS, etc. is leading to a brain drain, but it's not to other countries but rather from science. This senseless destruction of US science will hurt the US and the world for a very long time. RE:

I had a literal nightmare that during a town hall, the VP of research at my university threatened to sue me because NOAA had taken back one of my grants, but I had already spent some of the funds. He was going to make me pay for it personally. Check on your climate scientist friends. We're not okay.
