It can be hard to imagine how to defend oneself against an overwhelming force like ICE. But a few enterprising hackers have started projects to do counter-surveillance against ICE, and hopefully protect their communities through clever use of technology.
Amazon’s Ring doorbell camera system won the “Worst in Show” for privacy at #CES2026 for “doubling down on privacy invasion and supporting the misconception that more surveillance always makes us safer,” EFF’s Cindy Cohn told @npub1h9em...r7yr.
“The DROP mechanism makes exercising our privacy rights more user-friendly, and every California resident should be aware of the tool so they can make their own choices,” EFF’s @npub15hw0...28yt told San Francisco @npub1tza2...rxcu.
“Unfortunately, immigrants and noncitizens should now assume that anything they share publicly on social media might be surveilled by the government and potentially used against them,” EFF’s Lisa Femia told Borderless Magazine.
