Sometimes it is easy for us as adults to do things ourselves -- we know how to do them, we know if we do them they will get done, and we know when shortcuts may be appropriate -- instead of letting our children have responsibilities and the room to make mistakes. This, however, robs our children of experience that leads to competence and confidence. It allows them to grow up timid and fearful of failure, instead of being willing to try new things and fail forward into success.
Next time you are tempted to "do it yourself," give your child the opportunity to help, they may just surprise you.

Thanksgiving is a day where we gather with family and friends to celebrate what we've been given. We gather around a bountiful table, often with multiple generations, and share what we are thankful for.
