Helping families learn and grow together
Great praise from @Jack Spirko of The Survival Podcast, his description of "If You Want to Keep Some Chickens" is exactly what I wanted the book to be. "Getting kids involved early is a great way to help them become well rounded and self sufficient adults... it is a short book, all children’s books are, it does a good job of covering all the basics, not so much exactly what to do but how to think about it. So if you are getting chickens and want the kids involved it will help with talking to them about their responsibilities and what the birds will need." Read the full review here and give Jack some support by shopping through his links. #grownostr #kidsteaders #thesurvivalpodcast #tsp #bookstr
This week's comic features panels from "If You Want to Keep Some Chickens." image Sometimes it is easy for us as adults to do things ourselves -- we know how to do them, we know if we do them they will get done, and we know when shortcuts may be appropriate -- instead of letting our children have responsibilities and the room to make mistakes. This, however, robs our children of experience that leads to competence and confidence. It allows them to grow up timid and fearful of failure, instead of being willing to try new things and fail forward into success. Next time you are tempted to "do it yourself," give your child the opportunity to help, they may just surprise you. #gm image Thanksgiving is a day where we gather with family and friends to celebrate what we've been given. We gather around a bountiful table, often with multiple generations, and share what we are thankful for. It is good that the bustling holiday season is kicked off with a day to pause and be grateful for the people and things we have been blessed with. Take some extra time today to pass on some skills and memories to the younger generations, don't let grandma's best recipes and grandpa's hunting and gardening wisdom be forgotten. Hug your parents, hug your kids. #HAPPYTHANKSGIVING! #grownostr #family #togetherness
Reclaim domestic skills for yourself and your family. It is estimated that somewhere around 25% of college students can't cook, forcing them to rely on expensive and unhealthy prepared food options. Teaching our children to cook sets them up with permanent skills that they can continue to build on throughout their lives, and will help them to live more healthy lives while spending less money and getting better food. image #grownostr #cookwithyourkids #parenting #doneright
How much can a child learn in a kitchen? Aside from practical cooking experience enabling them to feed themselves for their whole life, a child can learn math, history, problem solving, social skills, cleanliness and more. As Thanksgiving approaches, take some time to invest into the children in your life. Teach them to make an old family recipe. Let them help measure the flour for the pie crust. Share memories from your childhood Thanksgivings. Make the most of the opportunity to spark an interest into practical skills. image #grownostr #kidsteaders #comic illustration is from the forthcoming #book #parenting #family #children
